Good morning! Last night we went out with friends and sort of watched the ASU game as we caught up on family news. It was pretty terrible so we didn't stay till the end. We came home and watched part of a movie with Rita. You know you're old when you can't watch an entire movie in one sitting.

I got to sleep in a little and thought I'd write the blog before I go outside to help Dave with our backyard plans. Last weekend ended up being more of a Labor Day weekend that I had planned. We are starting the work on our outdoor kitchen area of our backyard. My plans did not exactly align with Dave's vision, but I'm going along with it because I know in the end, I'll get the space that I'm wanting. We love to host dinner parties here and since I'm hosting an event for the faculty in October, we need to get cranking on this patio.

I'm heading out for another kayak adventure late in the day, so this time the kids will hear about it before you. Tomorrow I'll probably end up working some more, doing our shopping and meal planning, and spending time with family. Oh I almost forgot! The big news for our household is that my 21 year old is moving out this weekend! I love him and will miss him, but we are ready to see him experience life on his own.

The final thing on my to-do list is to finalize our fall break plans. I think I mentioned that my break does not align with my other children's so now I find myself looking for a short getaway, since Rusty will have to miss school. Our absolute favorite vacation spot is Playa Encanto down in Rocky Point. We like to rent a house right on the beach. Wish me luck! Oh, if anyone knows of someone that might have a house to rent, I'd love their contact information. It's getting harder and harder to find one on the water down there.

Okay, now let's take a look at the week ahead.

Language Arts -
Grammar - We'll take a look at what makes a complete sentence and we'll learn about adjectives this week.

Literature - We are ready to begin Pollyanna on Monday. Please be sure to send the books in, if you haven't already. We are happy to announce that literature circles, or reading groups, are also beginning this week. All three classes have Wednesdays set up for this special time for parents and grandparents to come in and read with the kids. I hope you will look for a link from the class liaisons to see what time your class has sign ups. I'm not sure if the links are live on our blog, yet, but next week, you should be able to go to the blog and look on the left-hand side of the post to find your class sign up link.

Philosophy - We got a little off track last week. One class already did their discussion on integrity, but the other two will be having that conversation this week.

Poetry - We are moving on to our new poem, "Ozymandius" by Percy Bysshe Shelley. The students will have 3 weeks to memorize it. It's different from the other poems they have done, but I think they'll like it.

Spalding and Composition - Now that we're in the regular flow of our language arts program, I won't be writing about our Spalding and Writing With Ease in my blog.

Math - The students are doing an amazing job with the order of operations! We are very pleased with their progress. The first unit test will be on Wednesday, giving us a couple of days to review and go over any concepts that were difficult for some.

Science - We had a really cool day yesterday as the kids identified which reactions they witnessed were chemical and which were physical. We'll finish up our chemistry unit learning about mixtures, compounds and solutions.

History - I'm super excited to begin one of my favorite units, the Middle Ages, on Monday. This is a long unit that will take us almost to the end of the semester. We will be creating a lapbook to go along with our study of medieval times. It's a fun way of making notes and little folds to help the kids remember the important parts of the unit.

That's about it. Have a fabulous weekend!
