Study Strategies

Study Habits for All Subjects: 

-Go over the notes taken in spirals from the unit, highlight key definitions 

-Study other flash cards we make (like Parts of Speech) 

-Use study guides to study 

-Make your own study guide for the subject 

-Study with a buddy 

-Teach someone something you’re learning 

-Act out the concepts or ideas 

-Draw pictures to reinforce concepts 

-With a parent, look up songs or other videos related to learning (share with teacher!) 

-Check out books from the library related to concepts, share with class 

-Write a pretend test based on the material learned 


Specific Subjects: 

Math

-Practice math facts daily 

-Review and correct any problems missed from Blue Math Book 

-Make up Math classwork and test corrections 

-Use Khan Academy to review concepts 


ELA:

-Study roots cards daily 

-Play Razzle, Dazzle, Drop with Roots or other games (look up games to play and introduce to class) 

-Read 15 pages of a 150 page or more book, daily 


History:

-Re-read History book chapters from that week 

-Study using folds for History Lapbooks 

-Retell the History events like a story 

-Write or dictate a practice Comprehension Check (ex: tell me all the reasons for the start of the Revolution) 


Science:

-Review spiral notes regularly, make note cards, teach someone the concepts 

-Write or dictate a practice Comprehension Check (ex: explain the steps of the Scientific Method) 


Questions to ask your children regarding school: 

Instead of asking your child, "What did you do today?" or "What happened at school today?"  Ask, "Can you teach me something from today?" or "Teach me something you learned today."  This is one small way to begin developing study habits, having your child re-teach the information they learned.
