Hello Fourth Grade Families,

As the weather continues to be fantastic, I hope you're finding ways to enjoy it! I found a way to do TWO 5ks on Saturday! One with a friend where we ended up at Starbucks to celebrate our 3 plus miles, and the other with my sisters in North Phoenix. I'm almost ready to graduate to 10ks.

Only one week until Spring Break! Can you believe it? This Friday is a half day with Field Day happening around 10am. Thank you for volunteering to help run the stations. Classes won't have a parent with them to help maximize physical distancing.

Literature Circles are on hold until we come back from Spring Break and get into "Carry On, Mr. Bowditch"! Please be sure your child has their copy for our return from Spring Break.

Let's take a look at what we're doing this week:

Language Arts -

Poetry - We're learning "Paul Revere's Ride" with stanza 10 due March 12th!

Grammar - This week we'll continue our focus on writing. We'll also continue to review grammar concepts targeting fourth grade grammar skills.

Literature - We'll use this time to write as well as read "The Princess and the Goblin". Their next literature book, starting in Quarter 4, is "Carry On, Mr. Bowditch".

Roots - We'll have 15 derivatives this week with a spelling test on Friday. Our roots are "figo/fixum", "pono/positum", and "facio/factum". Can you think of any derivatives using those roots?

Math - We've finished unit 7 and will review Monday for our test on Tuesday, March 9th. Please continue to encourage their daily study of math facts, correcting homework, and practicing past concepts they've struggled with.

Science - This week we'll being talking about animal adaptations and symbiotic relationships as well as a review of the scientific method. Please talk to your child about their study habits and strategies. What's working? What needs to be tweaked?

History - This week we will finish up our study of Arizona. Do you know Arizona's 5C's?

That's about it. We hope you're enjoying hearing about all of the wonderful things we're doing in fourth grade. Please know that we LOVE hearing about the things that are going well or that have your child excited about school. Please don't hesitate to share! Have a fantastic week!

Warmly,

Mrs. Scott
