Good morning dear families, I hope you are trying to stay healthy. We've had lots of sickness going around the classrooms lately. I hope the children can get some rest this weekend and return Monday fit and ready for school!

This weekend is another busy one for me. Last night my daughter had a couple friends over for dinner and to hang out. I also was watching my grandson while his parents had a date night. He'll be one next week and is always on the move! This morning I am going to visit my father. Unfortunately, his health is failing so I am trying to see him each week while I can. I heard from my sisters that he needs a haircut, so we'll see how that goes. Tonight we'll be going out to dinner with two other couples, so that should be fun. Tomorrow we'll go to church, and then my oldest daughter is going with me to shop for my "Mother of the Groom" dress. I've decided that I'm not disciplined enough to actually diet, so I'm just going to buy one that fits me now. Thankfully, we have no plans for Sunday night, which is great since I have to get ready for my brother and sister-in-law who are coming to help move their parents into the house next door. Unfortunately, they are a bit premature, but since they bought their tickets, what can we do? The flooring is being installed this week, so we're getting closer!

Let's see what the fourth graders will be doing this week.

Language Arts

Poetry - I have already started to hear some recitations in my class (they are so sweet!) and everyone will recite by Friday. Keep reminding them to practice their 5 minutes each day.

Grammar - We're working through our parts of speech review. We'll have a couple days on adverbs this week as well as start our diagramming lessons.

Composition - We'll write two summaries and we'll learn about writing topic sentences and learn the structure of paragraphs, too.

Literature - We're reading Ch. 8-12 this week. They have an assignment this weekend to draw a small picture and write one sentence for each of the first seven chapters.

Math - We had our first quiz on place value and now we'll move on to using the four operations with numbers up to 6 digits. Students should be practicing their math facts at home, if they do not have them memorized.

Science - Tuesday is our first comprehension check on the scientific method. You will hear a lot more about what those look like on Wednesday evening, but basically, the kids will be given a piece of lined paper and we will ask them to tell us all they know about the scientific method. Their answers should be in paragraph form. As a practice this weekend, they could write out what they know. Their answers should include the steps and as many terms with definitions that they can recall.

History - We'll wrap up our first unit about maps on Thursday. The kids will have a test about maps, which will be similar to their study guide.

That's about it. Remember that Wednesday night is our Curriculum Night from 6:30-8:00pm. The PSO asked us to include a link for you to fill out a form if you are interested in being a class liaison. I'm not sure if it went out to families in some other communication or not, but here it is now:

Enjoy your weekend!
