Good evening dear fourth grade families. I am writing the blog tonight because I'll be heading down to Mexico with my two sisters early tomorrow morning. We're having a girls' getaway for a couple of days. I won't be back to school until Tuesday and I forgot to tell the kids in my class. If your child is in 4C and you think they would do better if they knew in advance, feel free to pass it along. They will be in good hands with Mrs. Tapia. The wedding is just 6 weeks away and my weekends are pretty crazy until then, so I'm looking forward to just hanging out for a few days. Trying to get most of my grading done tonight, but I figure grading at the beach is better than grading at home!
Let's see what the kids have to look forward to next week.
Language Arts
Poetry - Two more weeks to memorize "Ozymandius". Driving in the car is a good time to work on it.
Composition - We will have our first writing assignment this week; the students will be writing an introductory paragraph. Most of our essays are going to be 5-paragraph essays, but in the first quarter, they will just be learning how to write the first paragraph. They will also have another graded summary and dictation.
Grammar - To help them with their writing, the students will practice some commonly misused and misspelled homophones this week.
Math - We're starting Unit 2 on Monday. This week's lessons include working with expressions, mental math skills, estimation, and multiplication.
History - Middle Ages here we come! I'm super excited to begin our first history unit (we just finished the two geography units for the year). I know the students will be as enthralled with learning about this time period as I am! We will be composing a lapbook to accompany our studies; they will be taking notes on foldables that will be assembled at the end of our unit to make a nice keepsake book. I started these when I was homeschooling, and we've been doing them here at Archway for the past 12 years.
Science - Another fun unit for the kids in science begins on Monday - Magnetism and Electricity! Who doesn't love to play with magnets?
I think that's it. Have a nice weekend!
