Good morning! I was just thinking that I only have four more blogs to write...crazy! We only have 19 more days in the classroom. Then your little angels will be home with you for the summer. Good times! I'm excited to have a weekend without school work; I graded all week and so after this blog, I'll have the weekend to myself.
We have a very fun short week planned for the kids. We have a guest speaker, Dr. Cheroske, coming in on Tuesday for our science classes, our field trip is Thursday, and we don't have school on Friday! Woot woot!
Here's what we'll be covering in our subjects:
Language Arts
Poetry - Please encourage your kiddos to stay on track with their poems. "If" is a four-stanza poem and they were given 4 weeks to memorize it. A good goal would be to do one stanza per week. They should have the first one memorized and be starting on the second this week.
Literature - We'll read chapters 15 and 16 this week of COMB.
Grammar - We will learn about indefinite pronouns and their verb agreements. Our final grammar test will be next Friday.
L&G Roots - We are down to 4 more roots for the year. We'll learn two this week and two in week 8. Then there will be a cumulative test on all the roots we've learned. It will have the definitions and a word bank.
Q4 W7 Roots
Students and teacher will write these into Language Arts spiral under Latin/Greek Roots.

Tuesday

bon vo yage (adj & n) French expression to wish someone a good journey
bo na fide (adj) Latin phrase meaning “in good faith,” most often used to mean “genuine” today
Composition - We are also finishing with our Writing With Ease curriculum with one final story. The kids will write a summary and have another dictation this week.
Science - I hope the children enjoyed the model lungs that we made in class yesterday. They are always fun to do. We are getting close to finishing with the respiratory system. We have our guest speaker and then we'll learn about respiratory ailments. Next week we will wrap it up with our final comprehension check. The students will need to know the path of air into our lungs and will be asked to explain how the gas exchange in our lungs works.
History - The patriots have declared independence and now the fight for freedom begins! Before we move onto the topic of war and battles, we want to make sure the students understand just how significant Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" was as well as the importance of the Declaration of Independence. They have an assignment this weekend that will help them prepare for Wednesday's check up on those two ideas.
Math - Students did a great job on their area and perimeter test yesterday. We will start our final chapter on volume this week. This is a short unit, so since we have more time, we'll finish the year with word problems (always a favorite!).
I think that's it. Have a lovely weekend!
