Good morning! Last night I went to a special screening of a new movie coming out next week called Father Stu. Mark Wahlberg is the star and he made a special appearance at the theater and spoke for a few minutes before the show! I'm a big fan, so it was pretty exciting to be there.  Our house guest left for the airport this morning after his 8-day stay. It's always nice to see him, but it's also nice to get back into the normal routine.

This morning I am heading over to my sister's house to make bread. She's going to show me how to make this delicious sourdough bread that she has only recently learned to make herself. I'm very eager to learn, although it will not be ready for baking until tomorrow.

So tomorrow I'll finish the bread and then come back home to make a large batch of potato skins. We're going to a friend's celebration of life after successful cancer treatment and these skins were requested. Other than that, I've got a little bit of grading and then family time.

Let's take a look at what week 4 has in store for the class.

Language Arts:

Poetry - We are very happy to announce that the three classes will be gathering in the MPR on Thursday morning at 8:15 to recite "Paul Revere's Rite" for you and your families. We are so proud of the students for their perseverance with this 13-stanza poem! I hope many of you will be able to make this recitation on Thursday. So, although that is happening, we will still begin learning our new poem, "George Washington" by Stephen Vincent Benet. Students will have two weeks to memorize their part of this poem.

Literature - Everyone is just loving this story of Nat Bowditch! We'll read chapters 7-9 this week.

Grammar - We'll be learning about comparative and superlative adjectives this week. There will be a grammar test next Monday.

Math - We finished up with our geometry unit and the kids did a great job on their assessment! We'll cover a few things in short order this week in preparation for the following week's AASA tests. We'll review area and perimeter, bar graphs, and line plots. Our testing days are the following Tuesday and Friday.

Science - We are wrapping up our cardiovascular unit and will have a comprehension check on Tuesday. Students should understand the basic functions of the circulatory system, know the path of blood through the heart, understand how diffusion works in the capillaries to deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells, and know blood components.

History - Things are heating up in Boston as the patriots have their famous Tea Party. We'll learn about how Great Britain responds and then how our Founding Fathers meet at the First Continental Congress.

That's about it. Have a fabulous weekend!
