Q2W3

Hello 4th Grade Families,

As I stood this morning at my daughter's CPA cross-country meet with a fourth-grade parent and a fifth-grade former parent, inevitably our conversation turned to the subject of the Math Curriculum and the dreaded bar models.  We all agreed the past week's word problems were incredibly complex, and would be much easier solved if the kids knew algebra.

As a fourth grade team, we concluded at the end of this past week, the scholars need more interaction with making the bar models alone (bar models are a primer to understanding algebra) and not all the other steps and computations.  We will spiral more of that step into every unit, ongoing.

Here is a poem shared by a parent this week on Classical Character Day-

HOLD FAST TO YOUR DREAMSLouise Driscoll (1875 – 1957)

Hold fast to your dreams!

Within your heart

Keep one still, secret spot

Where dreams may go,

And sheltered so,

May thrive and grow –

Where doubt and fear are not.

Oh, keep a place apart

Within your heart,

For little dreams to go.

Thank you for all the wonderful parent support!  We had such a fun day!  Ask your child about their time with their first grade reading buddy!
