Q4W3

 Q4W3

Hello!

AASA Testing is this week. All the hard work that we have done culminates to this moment in which they will prove just how far they have come. This week is the writing test, and I can attest that the growth that each and every student has made in this area is staggering. I am so proud of the lengths that each scholar has come, regardless of how well they do this Thursday. That being said, I have a good feeling that each scholar has the potential to not only succeed, but thrive. I look forward to seeing it happen.

News:

Conversions Math Test on Wednesday, 4/5. We will be assessing student understanding of different conversion ratios and how to convert between units of measurement, mass, volume, and time.

AASA Testing Dates: April 6th, 14th, and 21st. Please do not schedule any absences for these dates. These are important tests in which we spend a lot of time preparing. The Writing Test is this Thursday.

No school on Friday, 4/7.

Please donate tall plastic bottles! In the first weeks of the fourth quarter, each student will be making lung models using such bottles. They should not be too wide, easy to cut through, and tall. A perfect example is a 16 oz “SmartWater” bottle.

NO SMART WATCHES! Fitbits are fine. If there are any questions about what constitutes a smart watch, let us know. Students can keep them powered off in their backpack for after school use, but not on them. This is for many reasons, one of which being that certain tests can be completely invalidated by the presence of such a device.

Curriculum:

ELA:

In grammar, we are going over general practice with more daily grams in order to ensure we are well rounded for the upcoming AASA tests. We also practice further mastery of verbs, ensuring that we know how each type modifies a sentence.

Literature is continuing with Carry On, Mr. Bowditch, and we will be reading chapters 4-6 throughout the week, using them as an excellent springboard for discussion. Students must have their copy of Carry On, Mr. Bowditch if they do not already.

For our poem, “Paul Revere’s Ride,” the 13th (and final) stanza must be mastered by Thursday, April 6th. This is it! We will soon have a grade level recital for parents to see on an to-be-decided date.

In WWE, we are continuing writing practice with more essay writing practice and test prep packets.

In Latin and Greek Roots, we will learn the roots manus- and caput/capitis-. The students will need to know how to spell the following words: manual, manicure, maneuver, manager, manipulate, capital, captain, capitulate, and capitalize.

For philosophy, we will spend the time practicing writing, as this is a week of AASA Testing.

Math:

In math, we will be applying our understanding of conversions to word problems and preparing for the unit test on Wednesday, 4/5. We will be assessing student understanding of different conversion ratios and how to convert between units of measurement, mass, volume, and time.

History:

In history, we see the rift between the US colonists and their mother country growing through many key moments. Such moments include the Boston Massacre, Intolerable Acts, and the Boston Tea Party.

Science:

In science, we will be continuing our unit on the circulatory system. We dive into study of the blood itself, breaking it down by the components and the types.
