Good afternoon parents, guardians and scholars! I just wanted to remind everyone that this Monday will be a day off for our scholars and teachers here at Archway in observation of Veteran's Day.

Last weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to meet up with a friend from Australia. She and her sister stayed at my place on Friday night, and we drove early the next day to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. She continued with her trip that evening and I drove back with my boyfriend to Flagstaff for the night. It was our first time in Flagstaff and it was so wonderful to explore the city. We had the opportunity to go to the observatory and go on a constellations tour.

Okay, now let’s take a look at next week’s plans:

Language Arts: We are moving forward with our spalding lists for this week. In literature we will continue our adventures with Robin Hood.  I would encourage you to ask your scholar what part of the story they are enjoying the most. I really enjoyed chapter 8 where Robin Hood used his skills of persuasion to allow his friend to marry the maiden he loved.

Poetry: Our poems were great last week. We really enjoyed hearing all the scholar recite their poems. Next week they will begin memorizing Norman and Saxons.

Grammar: Look out for some more diagramming sentences this week. We are focusing on helping verbs and direct object nouns.

History: We are continuing with our exploration of the Middles ages. In the next coming weeks there will be time set aside for our scholars to work on winter projects in class. This time will be used for them to explore the resources we have available as well as to start answering those big questions in the packet which will help them form their project.

Science: As we continue to study weather we will be focusing on the movement of wind and identifying the impact the winds have on weather and climate.

Math: Last week our scholars completed unit 3, an exploration of fractions. It is important that when the tests are handed back to scholars next week that the incorrect problems are corrected. The students should be asking questions to identify where they made mistakes so they may learn a new strategies to assist them next time they come across a similar problem. We will continue to build on their knowledge of fractions by introducing addition and subtractions within mixed numbers.

Next weekend will be Feed my starving children. I personally will be in attendance as well as some of other lovely fourth grade team members. It will be happening on Saturday November 16, 2 - 4pm.  The link below will allow you to sign up and join us as we come together to help out our community.

Have a wonderful long weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday.

Warmly,
Bella O’Hara
