Agenda: Daily, students should fill out their agendas correctly with all homework and communication for parents. Students are responsible for asking parents for a homework check and getting a parent signature in the agenda (the signature is only required in 1st Qtr.). Parents are encouraged to ask students to recheck any missed answers from homework, but not give the correct answers. Blue Math Book: Students will complete homework and leave book out
for teacher check every morning.
Students will grade workbooks with a red pencil. Students will make
corrections to any missed problems after grading that section, but not
during the grading. Students may ask for help during class or at home. Student books will be turned in at the end
of each unit for a grade. If a student is absent for grading they must borrow
the class key when they return to grade their book in red pencil. |
Homework Policy: Homework is always due first thing in the morning within 5 min. Of the bell. Students should check their agendas to make sure they turned in all their homework.
Missing/No Name Work: Students will receive a notification if they are missing an assignment. Students are responsible to turn in Late Work.
Late Work: Missing Assignments (and no names) will require students to make-up the missing work outside at morning recess or during Lyceum. Students are encouraged to work on missing assignments before and after school and during snack. Turning in HW after 8:10 am on the due date will result in a 25% deduction. 2nd & 3rd day late is another 25%, and after that it is 0% but still must be completed. HW will be turned in completed, regardless of the deduction and credit for points. |

Morning Routine: Wait in the hallway by the door to greet your
teacher. Come in quietly, unpack all things needed for the
day at your desk. Snack should be placed in the desk at this time.
Take lunch and backpack to hooks and shelf.
No access to backpacks until pack-up without teacher permission. Turn
in all homework to the bins. Students should have 2 sharpened pencils and 1
sharpened red pencil in their desks every morning. Math workbooks and agendas should be left
out for the teacher assistant to quickly check. Then students should silent
read their focused reading book. Students should make the most of the time
before school for morning work.

Absences/Make Up Work: If you are absent, you will have the number of days you were absent to make up your missed assignments. However, you are responsible to check for which assignments you are missing and get notes/homework corrections from a classmate as soon as you return. You must stay current on any new assignments after you return. Dates to make-up missed tests and quizzes will be on a case-by-case basis. Homework Policy: Homework is always due first thing in the

will result in a 10% deduction. HW

Fire Drills: Silently stand up and push in your chair. Follow your teacher to the field in two straight lines. Bathroom Usage: Trips to the restroom are not allowed during instruction or 1 hour after a break or recess or start of day. Recess: When you hear the whistle please STOP, put your
hands on your knees, and wait for further instructions. Please respect all recess equipment. It is a class job to make sure all class
equipment comes back to class. Check
your uniforms before re-entering the building. |

Classroom Library: Our classroom has a library for student use. Students must keep one book in their desk at all times. If the book becomes damaged or lost students must work with the teacher and their parents to replace the book as soon as possible. Students may only make one book selection per day. Ask teachers for recommended selections if you have a hard time choosing books. Book List: Students will aim to read at least 30, 150 page
books this school year. This averages
out to about 15 pages per day of reading. Students should always have a
chapter book with them and be ready to read whenever they finish their
work. Upon completion of a book (or
150 pages of a longer book) students should record the title, author, pages
and date in their Reading Log at the back of their Roots Journal. No graphic
novels are allowed on the list.

Comprehension Checks: After concluding the History units on Maps and Mountains, all of our History and Science tests are a written in narrative form about the content covered in our text book and/or notes taken in class. Students are responsible for taking notes in class that they will use to study for the comprehension checks. Students may write in print, but are encouraged to use cursive. Students should communicate the concepts in full sentences, in a logical manner. Drawings are permitted if it helps the student recall information, but will not be graded. Poetry and Poems: Students will work on the assigned poem, daily. Students should not cram last minute for a
poem. Poems consist of a good portion
of the ELA grade, so it is critical your child makes memorizing and
performing on time a priority. Reading Journal: Scholars should write a journal entry regarding the book finished in their reading journal (behind the reading log). They can write their journal during Focused Reading time at school. 2 journals will be graded per quarter for a writing grade. They should use the 22 prompts in the back of the Reading Journal.

Labeling Your Paper: Students should write their name and number in the upper right-hand corner. Students should also write CW for classwork and HW for homework in the upper left-hand corner depending on the type of assignment. Parent Signature and “Redo/Correct and Resubmit”: Parent Signatures are required on any tests in which the student scores below 70%. Any graded homework or classwork with a score below 70% will have “Correct
and Re-submit”or “Redo” written on it and students are expected to make
corrections, check with parents and return to school. Students may ask for teacher help before or
after school or during snack to make corrections. Typing: Typing is Wednesdays. Students should have headphones in a plastic bag with their name labeled outside. Students should leave headphones in the classroom. |

Math Facts and Math Fluency Students should practice their math
facts ( + , - , x , ➗ ) every night. This can be done many
ways at home, including but not limited to:
In class we will be practicing math facts through our Math Fluency Program.

Roots: Students will write weekly roots in journal M,T,W.
Students will take a pre-test based on the derivatives definitions on Th.
Friday is the post-test.
Absent/make-up tests will be administered case-by-case. Students will keep a list of roots in their
journal as well as a clear pouch of cards for practicing Roots and meanings
all year. Students will know all 75
roots at the end of the school year for a cumulative test. |
Math Test Corrections: Students will attach a separate piece of paper to
their graded math tests and write the problem number of each problem
missed. They will re-do the problem
correctly and show their work. They
will also write a short sentence about why they missed that problem. Students can earn up to 5 points for their
corrections. Students who missed no
problems, do not need to submit corrections.
