Hello Fourth Grade Families,
Another beautiful Arizona weekend. I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy the weather. I love hearing about all of the wonderful things you're doing outside. We spent the weekend moving things out of my parents' home. It was emotional but therapeutic with so many moments to reminisce. Quality time with 4 of my siblings was much needed. I'm on my way to do a 5k with my sister and a friend. Hoping to speed up my time on the mile (I have 3 miles to practice).
Scholars will need their Prince Caspian books Monday, 2/1. We are ready to start Literature Circles back up this Wednesday. Please be sure you are in our Raptor System in order to volunteer and sign up on the link provided in the blog.
If your child is wanting to participate in Literary Character Day, they should have already submitted their paper with their teacher and received feedback. We're excited to see what virtues they find valuable in Classical Characters on Friday. Remember this Friday is a half day as well. This week would be a great week for your child to donate a book to their class library.
Thursday they can wear Literary Character Day shirts designed by one of our 5th graders with the rest of their attire being uniform.
Let's take a look at what we're doing this week:
Language Arts -
Poetry - We're learning "Paul Revere's Ride" with stanza 5 due February 5th.
Grammar - We're diving into quite a bit of Grammar Review that involves editing writing and word usage. Challenge your child to use their spelling words daily.
Literature - We've finished the poetry unit and scholars have turned in their poetry books. Ask them to see their original poetry book. We start reading Prince Caspian Monday. Literature Circles start back up Wednesday.
Roots - We'll have 15 roots this week with a spelling test on Friday.
Math - We'll continue connecting decimals to fractions this week. Scholars will take a tenths and hundredths quiz on Thursday. Math Facts should be a daily study for every scholar. They are asked to spend 5 - 10 minutes a night doing so. We want their "go to" facts to be accurate so that as they work through assignments they can rely on their recall being accurate. Their next cumulative math test will be Monday, Feb 8th. Please encourage them to correct homework daily as it is a form of studying.
Science - This week we'll focus on volcanoes. Looking forward, fourth grade will need 7 white poster boards and 15 wide neck water bottles (Vitamin Water Bottles have worked perfectly in the past) in order to do our experiment next week.
History - Your scholars will continue learning about Arizona.
That's about it. We hope you're enjoying hearing about all of the wonderful things we're doing in fourth grade.
Warmly,
Mrs. Scott
