Hello Fourth Grade Families,
What a fantastic Great Hearts Day! Thank you so much for raising such Great Hearted Children. It is truly a joy to spend our days with them. I'm excited for this three day weekend. Maybe we'll even do something to celebrate our State's birthday on Sunday! I'm thinking a visit to Sedona or the Grand Canyon. Don't forget that your fourth grader gets a park pass/discount!
Monday is President's Day, no school!
Thursday will be Galileo Testing right at the start of our day for Fourth Grade. Please be sure your child is on time and well rested.
Your child may have already discussed the Bard Competition with you. With all of our focus on poetry in fourth grade, it's the perfect year for them to participate! They will memorize a poem for Round 1 that is between 10 and 35 lines. It can't be an original work nor something they have memorized in class. Their registration is due on February 17th. Round 1 is March 9th at 3:45pm in the MPR.
Let's take a look at what we're doing this week:
Language Arts -
Poetry - We're learning "Paul Revere's Ride" with stanza 7 due February 19th. This is one of our bigger stanzas, so please ensure that your child is studying daily.
Grammar - This week we'll continue Language and Vocabulary review.
Literature - We've enjoyed the first 8 chapters of Prince Caspian. As we continue into this book, I encourage you to talk to your child about what's happening in the story. It's packed full of adventure and virtue.
Roots - We'll have 7 derivatives this week with a spelling test on Friday.
Math - We'll continue our study of decimals and operations.
Science - We wrap up our study of geologic events this week and begin our study of rocks.
History - As we continue our study of Arizona, we will focus on Arizona becoming a territory.
That's about it. We hope you're enjoying hearing about all of the wonderful things we're doing in fourth grade. Have a fantastic 3 day weekend!
Warmly,
Mrs. Scott
