Hello Fourth Grade Families,
What a lovey and rejuvenating weekend! I hope you felt it too! It's been beautiful outside and I was able to get another virtual 5k in! So far that's at least one per month in 2021! I'm working to keep that up! Do you have any 2021 goals? I'd love to hear it.
We're only 2 full weeks away from Spring Break! Can you believe it?
Literature Circles are on hold until we come back from Spring Break and get into "Carry On, Mr. Bowditch"! Does your child have their copy?
If your child is entering the Environmental Art Contest, please note that entries are due by Friday, March 5th. They can ask Mrs. Scott if they need an entry form. Their entry is to be drawn on the back of the form.
Let's take a look at what we're doing this week:
Language Arts -
Poetry - We're learning "Paul Revere's Ride" with stanza 9 due March 5th!
Grammar - This week we'll continue our focus on writing. We'll also continue to review grammar concepts targeting fourth grade grammar skills.
Literature - We'll use this time to write as well as read "The Princess and the Goblin". Their next literature book, starting in Quarter 4, is "Carry On, Mr. Bowditch".
Roots - We'll have 15 derivatives this week with a spelling test on Friday. Our roots are "metron", "astron", and "stella". Can you think of any derivatives using those roots?
Math - We've learned how to multiply decimals and introduced division. This week will bee focused on division and word problems. Their next cumulative test in math will be Tuesday, March 9th. Please continue to encourage their daily study of math facts, correcting homework, and practicing past concepts they've struggled with.
Science - This week we'll discuss renewable and nonrenewable resources as well as water as an energy source and recycling.
History - Your child should be able to tell you ALL ABOUT Arizona's path to statehood. Please ask them how it happened and why. We'll be learning about Arizona's government and state symbols.
That's about it. We hope you're enjoying hearing about all of the wonderful things we're doing in fourth grade. Please know that we LOVE hearing about the things that are going well or that have your child excited about school. Please don't hesitate to share! Have a fantastic week!
Warmly,
Mrs. Scott
