Good afternoon dear fourth grade families! Mrs. Maza here for one quick blog before we hand over the reins to our two apprentice teachers in fourth grade: Mrs. Tapia and Mr. Smith. They'll be taking over under my guidance to write the blog for quarter four.

Speaking of which...can you believe it??? We've almost made it! Hard to believe it was last year at this time that it all fell apart and you were left helping us figure out how to teach your kids online. SO glad we don't have to do that any more!

I hope you've had a lovely break! I went to Mexico with just my husband and the two kids who still live at home. Weird having so few of us down there, but it's always fun regardless of the numbers or the weather. As always I squeezed in a 1000-piece puzzle and read a couple books over the break. I spent one day Davey-sitting (that's our cute name for watching my grandson). Then yesterday, I went golfing! Surprisingly, I wasn't terrible, so that's good. I haven't been in 20 years, and had only golfed 3 times back then. Tonight I've got some friends coming over to celebrate a birthday and tomorrow we'll be taking in a Cubs spring training game. Gotta pack in as much as possible while you can!

Let's take a look at the week ahead:

Language Arts:

Poetry - 3 more stanzas to go! Stanza 11 is due on Friday.

Grammar - we'll ease back into things this week with a little diagramming and the practice AZ Merit test.

Composition - We're going to return to our Writing With Ease this week, doing a summary and a dictation.

Literature - We'll be reading The Princess and the Goblin aloud to the kids this week, and then begin Carry On, Mr. Bowditch next Monday. Reading groups will not begin this Wednesday, but will start up again on the 31st.

Math - We will also take the practice AZ Merit test in math this week. Then we'll begin our unit in geometry. The kids are excited to learn these concepts because they've seen them on the Galileo tests earlier this year.

History - I'm super excited to begin our American History unit!!! We'll learn about the amazing time and people of the American Revolution. Of course, we'll construct another lapbook, too.

Science - This week we'll get to know some famous scientists including Benjamin Banneker, Michael Faraday, Elizabeth Blackwell, and Charles Drew.

That does it! We've missed the kiddos and are looking forward to being with them again. Have a lovely weekend!
