This is it! Moving day for my in-laws! Well, I should probably call it moving weekend. They live only a few miles from us now, so we're going to try bringing only the things they really need over, and then gradually get more items as they want them. After living in their house for 40 years, they have accumulated a lot of stuff!

Since that's going to take up my entire weekend, there's not much else going on. Let's see what your kiddos will be doing this 4-day school week.

Language Arts

Poetry - Our poems will be recited this week whenever the kids are ready, and as we have time to hear them. The final due date is Friday.

Grammar - We had mixed results on our grammar quizzes; many students aced it, but quite a lot do not know their parts of speech. We'll continue working with these throughout the year, of course, and this week we'll finish up with conjunctions and interjections.

Composition - We're going to have a summary and dictation this week, but will take some of our writing time for our first Galileo test. More on that after the subjects update.

Literature - We will finish up The Wonderful Wizard of Oz this week. Please have your children bring Pollyanna by Friday. I have asked about volunteers for reading groups, but did not get a response yet. Please stay tuned to your email for any correspondance about reading groups on Wednesday.

Math - There will be a short quiz on place value, factors and multiples on Tuesday, and the rest of the week we're going to be learning about the order of operations.

Science - We're learning about the different properties of matter and chemical and physical changes that can happen with matter. Next Friday, the students will have their chemistry comprehension check. They will be writing about the things they've learned about matter. We will provide them with some prompting questions to help guide them.

History - We'll wrap up our mountains unit this week, with some review and a test the following week. Remember, this will be our final "test" in history; the remainder of the year, the students will also have comprehension checks in history.

That's it for our regular studies, but Thursday will be our benchmark Galileo test. This is a test that all 2-5 students take at GH. We use this test to measure their growth throughout the year. They will take it again in December and then again in the spring. To help them do their best, please be sure they eat a healthy breakfast and then arrive to school on time that day. Thank you for your support!

Have a fabulous weekend! I hope you all are doing something more exciting than me!
