Happy Sunday! I hope you are enjoying the gorgeous weather. It will be getting cold starting Friday so please hunt for school sweaters and jackets for your child. The temperature in our building is kept cool and scholars may especially need one for morning recess.

  • Our winter music concert is Wed night, Dec 8 in the CPA gym. The concert begins at 6:30 so your children need to be in our fourth-grade classrooms between 6:05 and 6:15pm.
  • Our field trip to the MIM is the next day on Thursday, Dec 9! Please read through the flyer and email. Your child needs to have a disposable water bottle and disposable sack lunch with their name on it. Make certain you have completed the consent form for your son/daughter to attend the field trip. • We so appreciate our parents and understand all the sacrifices you make to support your child’s education. This can be a crazy month and my wish is that each of you take time to ponder the wonderful gift in your precious child. They give us hope and make us stronger/better people. It is a privilege to teach a child and you are the most important teachers in their lives.

Overview Week of Dec 6th

Language Arts

  • Grammar – Quiz is on Monday. We teach contractions this week and proper use of quotation marks as well. All notes are in the red spirals.
  • Poetry – Due this Friday, Dec 10th "Norman and Saxon"
  • Literature & Composition – Students finish Robin Hood essays this week in class.
  • Latin & Greek Roots – Week 8 roots are mikros and magnus. Spelling words are located on the right side this blog – click “Latin & Greek Roots” under “Materials”.
  • Philosophy – Do we control technology or does technology control us?

Math – Students continue with operations on fractions covering 4.3a-4.4d in their book. We will multiply fractions by a whole number. Students will interpret the fraction of a set. For example, children may be handed 20 objects with 5 of them colored yellow and the rest are green. If asked what fraction of the total number of objects are yellow, they answer 5/20. Students will work with manipulatives such as objects, fraction discs, or bars to discover this.

Science – Students will have a comprehension check on Wednesday, Dec 8. They need to know the definition of weather, and why it is always changing. We continue to discuss the difference between weather and climate. Climate is the average, year to year conditions of temperature, precipitation, winds, and clouds in an area. While weather changes day to day, climate is consistent and is predominately influenced by the latitude of a particular location or area.

History – We continue making folds for lap books this week while learning about another famous woman, Joan of Arc (1412-1431). She played an important role in driving the English out of France during one period of the Hundred Years’ War. We also learn about the awful Black Death that killed 25 million people and was another factor that brought an end to the Middle Ages. Our comprehension check for history will be our last week of this quarter, on Monday, Dec 13.
