We've had a great first week back! I have a couple of things that I want to inform you of before we take a look at the week ahead.
First off, we are going to begin our state testing April 7th. This will be our writing test. The students will write an entire multi-paragraph essay in one sitting. We've been working on this skill, and I know they will do their best! Our ELA and Math assessments will be split into two days, April 19th and April 22nd. Please DO NOT schedule appointments on any of these testing dates. Because they are required by the state, when students miss them, they have to make them up. This means they'll be missing long periods of regular instruction to make up those tests. I know sometimes they do get sick, and by all means, don't send in sick children for testing, but if you can control it, please reschedule appointments or avoid those dates next month. Thank you for your cooperation.
Next item is our second field trip. We will be going to the Arizona Science Center on Thursday, May 5th. I know it's early, but I just wanted to let you know so you can save the date if you are interested in chaperoning. I will let you know when the sign up and registration link is ready.
Finally, each of the classrooms is in need of just a few supplies to finish out the year. Instead of updating the wish list links, I'm just going to include a short list here:
4A - lined paper (wide rule)
4B - lined paper (wide rule)
4C - paper towels and facial tissue
Here's what we have planned for this week:
Language Arts:
Poetry - 12th stanza will be recited Friday.
Grammar - We'll learn how to diagram compound sentences this week and get more practice identifying the various types of verbs.
Literature - We will begin Carry On, Mr. Bowditch this week and we'll begin reading groups this week, too.
Composition - We will do another practice for our writing test; this week we'll read about tides and will write an introductory paragraph and a body paragraph about the two texts.

Math - We're moving along with our geometry unit, teaching the kids how to use protractors this week. We'll spend a few days measuring angles to give the kids plenty of practice using protractors. Then we will finish up the parallel and perpendicular lines sections and review what we learned about triangles.
Science - I hope the children told you all about the hearts they were able to check out this week! It's super cool to have a hands-on experience to discover how the heart works. We've learned so much already and after our lesson about different blood types, we will bring the hearts back out to have them identify all the parts that they have learned. If you know your blood type (or anyone else's in the family, please tell your child - we will be doing an activity with this information later this week, too). We'll learn about blood pressure at the end of the week.
History - Tomorrow we'll have our quiz on the 13 colonies; students will need to know their location and how to spell them properly. We will learn more about the French and Indian War and then begin to understand how the acts of Parliament helped to bring about a change in the attitude of the colonists.
That's it for this week. I hope you had an amazing time at the medieval faire yesterday! I was planning to attend, but went to family days at Boeing with my son-in-law and his family and found out that I had to stick with them the whole time. It was super cool though, and they hadn't had a family day since 2018. After that, my husband and I drove up to Cottonwood for a fundraiser event. Today, we're helping out at the in-law's next door and then going to a Cubs/Royals game.
Have a fabulous week! Looking forward to much cooler weather!
