It's field trip week! This Friday is our first 4th Grade Field Trip to the Liberty Festival! Thank you to all chaperones who have signed up. If anything comes up and you cannot attend it is crucial you notify the teacher so a parent on the waitlist can attend.
The annual Medieval Faire is this Saturday, 11/18 from11am-2pm. It is expected that all parents sign-up to volunteer or donate to support our school community. We hope you have a great time with your family as you attend!

-Please send students with the Dover Classics copy of "Robin Hood" for Q2.
-Make sure students are studying regularly throughout the quarter: review History chapters read in class, review Science spiral notes, study Roots definitions flash cards, study multiplication flash cards on missed problems from Rocket Math tests, and reading 6-8, 150 page or more books with journal entries.
-We will no longer check agendas for a signature, but please still ask to see their agendas and homework for correctness.
-All late assignments will receive a 10% deduction per day late in Q2-4.
NEWS:
On November 17th, we will be attending the Liberty Festival at Schnepf Farms. It recreates the momentous era of the Revolutionary War through games, activities, and live battle reenactments. This will give us a great preview for our upcoming history unit and grant deeper understanding of life during this time. Dress Code Notes:
Only school logo sweaters are allowed to be worn in the building. Non-dress code sweaters/fleeces/jackets can be worn at recess only and must be in their backpack/cubby while in the building. Now that the weather is getting cooler, remember that long sleeve shirts worn underneath a polo can be white, maroon, navy, or black. Black or blue leggings are allowed under skirts, but they should reach the sock line (not capri length).

ELA:
The last poem of Quarter 2 is "Norman and Saxon". It is due on Wednesday, December 13th, but we encourage students to perform as early as they choose.
LITERATURE We are reading more chapters of Robin Hood this week. This is to complete the tale and set us up for Robin Hood Essays at the end of Quarter 2. Be sure your students have the correct edition of Robin Hood (Dover Evergreen Classics) for all of quarter 2.
We continue our COMPOSITION program with learning how to write a body paragraph and be able to identify all the parts of a 5-paragraph essay. We will begin our endeavor of the Robin Hood 5-Paragraph Persuasive Essay by identifying if Robin Hood was a hero or not and providing textual proofs for our position.
In GRAMMAR, we review notes in the red spiral on Predicate Adjectives. Students should refer to these notes to do homework and writing assignments to include these types of sentences in summary and essay writing for the remainder of the year. Scholars will take a Q2 Grammar Test 1 on Tuesday. This is closed note, so students should study from their WOL books and red spirals in preparation. WOL books will be collected on Tuesday for points for completion and in-class grading of Chapters 5 and 6.
Transitive and Intransitive Verbs
In LATIN AND GREEK ROOTS our roots are scribe/scriptum = write and graph = written down, printed, drawn. Their derivatives are: scribe, manuscript, scribble, indescribable, prescription, postscript, description, inscription, photograph, paragraph, telegraph, autograph, graphite, phonograph, biography. The Roots test will be held on Thursday due to Friday's field trip. Scholars should study their 26 Roots Cards every day for 5-10 minutes.
For PHILOSOPHY, we will discuss was Robin Hood a Hero? What are the characteristics of a hero? Can you be a hero and still commit crimes? What virtues does Robin Hood possess? Is it ever okay to disregard the law?
Math:
In Math, we will begin with an open-note quiz on correctly ordering fractions with unlike denominators. Simplification of fractions is a key concepts scholars should hone. We will continue with Chapter 5 concepts which is our first chapter on Fractions. Scholars will add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators. The Chapter 5 test will take place in week 7.
Math Test Corrections:
Students will attach a separate piece of paper to their graded math tests and write the problem number of each problem missed. They will re-do the problem correctly and show their work. They will also write a short sentence about why they missed that problem. Students can earn up to 5 points for their corrections. Students who missed no problems, do not need to submit corrections.
Khan Academy Help for Adding with Unlike Denominators
History:
In History, we will read chapters 21 about the Black Death. Scholars will review for a Comprehension Check on Thursday covering the End of the Middle Ages. Students should be able to discuss at length the three greatest contributors to the close of the time period including: New inventions from the Hundred Years' War, the role of the Black Death and its affect on the Feudal System, and how the Hundred Years' War changed loyalties as it relates to the Feudal System.
Science:
In Science, we will learn about weather fronts and their part in severe weather like hurricanes and tornados.
