Q2W7

 Q2W7

Our field trip to the Museum of Illusions and lunch at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park will take place on Friday, 12/6.  Each class can take 5 chaperones.  The sign up registry will go live on Monday at 7pm. We ask that if you can join us for this field trip, then you allow other parents to register for our next trip on 2/13. Please note, we often ask parent chaperones to drive themselves (or carpool with one another) because of limited space on the buses.

CURRICULUM:

ELA:

The last poem of Quarter 2 is "Norman and Saxon". It is due on December 13th, but we encourage students to perform as early as they choose.

Norman and Saxon background

LITERATURE We are finishing Robin Hood this week.  This is to complete the tale and set us up for Robin Hood Essays at the end of Quarter 2.

We continue our COMPOSITION program with the writing of the Robin Hood 5-Paragraph Persuasive Essay by identifying if Robin Hood was a hero or not and providing textual proofs for our position.

In GRAMMAR, we review notes in the red spiral on Predicate Verbs, Nominatives and Adjectives.  Students should refer to these notes to do WOL homework and writing assignments to include these types of sentences in summary and essay writing for the remainder of the year.  There is a closed-note predicate review quiz on Thursday of this week.

Their derivatives are: hydrogen, dehydrate, hydrology, hydrologic, hydroelectric, hydroplane, hydrant, hydrophone, carbohydrate, aqueduct, aquamarine, aquarium, aquifer, aquatic, aqueous. The Roots test will be held on Friday.  Scholars should study their 28 Roots Cards every day for 5-10 minutes. Q2W10 will have a cumulative test on all 30 roots.

For PHILOSOPHY, we will discuss having a thankful heart and attitude.  Can you teach yourself to be a grateful person?

In Math, we will review Chapter 5 concepts for the test on Thursday 11/21. The blue workbook is also due pages 107-133; completed, graded and corrected. On Friday we begin Chapter 6 extending our fraction concepts with fractions greater than 1.

Math Test Corrections:

Students will attach a separate piece of paper to their graded math tests and write the problem number of each problem missed.  They will re-do the problem correctly and show their work.  They will also write a short sentence about why they missed that problem.  Students can earn up to 5 points for their corrections.  Students who missed no problems, do not need to submit corrections.

In History, we will read chapters 3-5 over the Dynasties of China.  Students should review the Big Question at the beginning of each chapter and be prepared to answer.

Science:

In Science, we will learn about meteorology, predicting weather, and continue preparing for the Comprehension Check on Friday, 11/22.  Students should use their green spiral notes to answer the propmt: What is weather and why is it always changing?
