Good afternoon, sorry for the late post, but I just got back into town from my camping trip. We headed out Friday right after school and were up in the cool pines before dinner. It was a really fun trip and all the parents agreed that we're coming back next year. Many of the girls' parents who couldn't make it this time said they want to come to experience it next year, too. It's pretty cool for these 7 young ladies to have these memories that will last forever. I was sad that this event coincided with the Great Hearts Gala, which took place last night. I hope to attend that next year; I've heard already that it was incredible. If any of you attended, you'll have to fill me in on the details.
We're only 9 days away from our exchange student. We received his bio information and learned that he is shy and quiet; I hope that he will enjoy our family, because those are not adjectives I would ever use to describe anyone in this house. We'll see...
Only two weeks to go until the break! It's a long quarter because our break is so late, but it still went by pretty fast for me. Wait until quarter two! We have several holidays and I just know it will fly by. Anyway, let's take a look at what lies in store for the kids this week.
Language Arts:
Grammar & Composition - We will use this time for our Charlemagne in-class essays.
Literature - We will finish Pollyanna this week and will have one final homework assignment for this book.
Math - We'll do some more division practice and word problems involving all four operations and then we'll teach the kids how to multiply a 2-digit number by a 2-digit or 3-digit number. I know some students already know how, but most do not and are excited to learn. There will be a quiz on Thursday and the unit test isn't until the following week. Sorry, I was mistaken when I said it was this week. It's just a quiz this week before they learn double-digit multiplication.
History - We will read two more chapters this week, learning about feudalism and life on a manor estate.
Science - As you know from the kids' homework last week, we are moving from magnetism into electricity. The kids will have the chance to explore with snap circuit sets for a couple of days. If anyone has one of these cool kits at home and wants to send them in, they are welcome to do so.
I think that's about it. I know we're all getting excited for that break, so if any of the kids seem to be running out of steam, please encourage them to finish strong!
