Good morning dear fourth grade parents and guardians! Wow! I had such a fun night last night! My daughter's friend celebrated her quinceanera in big-time fashion! The birthday girl's brother happens to be in my class this year and we were so happy to be invited. There was another fourth-grader from Miss Johansen's class there, too. It was fun to see them all dressed up. Of course the seven sophomores we took camping were there looking a little better than they did when we were on the mountain. It was a great night of good food, fun conversation, and lots of dancing! It was so fancy that I even wore mascara! The last time I did that was in January for my own daughter's wedding! haha

Today, I'm going to my niece's bridal shower. It's actually my husband's sister's daughter, who is a few years older than my oldest son. Her father passed away 5 years ago, and she asked Dave to give her away at the wedding. She is very precious to us.

Other than that, we are super busy getting our house ready for Akira (that's our Japanese student's name). You'd think we would be ready already, but being gone all last weekend did help at all. I think we'll get there.

This might be my last post for the quarter (it was such a long one!) I've never had my fall break after my son's birthday. That's going to mean that quarter two will feel awfully short. Let's take a look at what we have in store for us this week. Oh, before I start, I wanted to put in the links for our conferences. Please sign up for one so we can share all the great information about your children.

Language Arts: We will have one more Spalding list this week and the rest of the time will be spent working on our essays. I have two reminders: first, please send in Robin Hood with your child as soon as possible, and second, we will not have reading groups again until Character Day, October 30th. Thank you to all who have come in to read with the kids; they really do treasure that time to be with you. I don't know if we will have time for the philosophy discussion this week, as the essays are our top priority.

Math: We had great results on the little quiz this week. Hopefully, that's an indication of the results we'll get on this week's test. The kids have learned how to do double-digit multiplication and are getting lots of practice every day. We'll just have one more lesson on mental math strategies, then we'll review and practice some more before Thursday's test.

Science: We've had fun exploring the snap circuit kits this week. Many of my students have stayed in from recess to play and discover more cool things about electricity. If you haven't heard from them, or don't know what we're talking about, ask them about these kits. If they are interested in it, they make great gifts. We will do some more cool activities this week as we learn about conductors and insulators and make our own electromagnets!

History: We're moving on in our story of the Middle Ages. The kids learned about feudalism this week and will continue to hear about the different people groups that make up the feudal society.

I think that's it. Have a super week!

P.S. Save the date for our first service opportunity at Feed My Starving Children on Nov. 16 from 2-4pm. I'll send the link for sign-ups after the break.
