Welcome back! It’s a new quarter and new year. It's Ms. Johansen here and I am happy to take a turn writing to you from 4B this quarter. I hope you all had a restful break and made some heartwarming memories with family. I know I had a very wonderful break because I got engaged!!
With conferences, we have a shorter school week this week. Here’s what we’ll be working on Wednesday-Friday:
Winter Projects: Dioramas and posters are due this week! Since the packets were turned in before the break, all the students need to bring with them this week is their dioramas or poster boards, along with their notecards for their presentations. They should practice in front of someone at home before presenting at school. Remember that their presentations should be 2 to 3 minutes long and they should be referring to their diorama or boards as they present. (In other words, they are not merely re-reading their reports).
Language Arts: We’ll be waiting to start Spalding until next week so we can work on a full week of words. For our next book in English, please remind your child to bring Harp & Laurel Wreath to start our unit studying poetry! We’ll also be talking about different poetic devices this week, like similes, metaphors, hyperboles, and alliteration.
Math: We will be using our 4B math textbooks and workbooks this quarter. Please bring these by next week! We won’t have math this week until Friday, which will be a review of 4A.
Science: We’ll be starting our geology unit on Monday. This is a fascinating unit with lots of hands-on activities. We'll be learning about what goes on inside Earth for the entire quarter.
History: It’s time to start studying Arizona history! We’ll begin by learning about regions of the United States, then move into Arizona’s own geography and history. We have our field trip to the state capitol on January 31st. We would love to have you volunteer to join us! We will have a sign up link available next week with details about the trip.
Looking forward to a wonderful quarter!
