Good evening dear families! Sorry for the late post, but better late than never! This is Mrs. Maza here, filling in for the week. Hope you are all doing well this quarter. Things are moving along quickly from where I sit! Can't believe we're half way through it already. Mrs. Shroll and I were able to drop by at the Father/Daughter Dance last night...what a lovely event! It was my first time and I really enjoyed seeing the girls in all their regalia! I even got a photo with a big group of fourth graders. Very cute!

Don't forget to keep up with the Walk-On Challenge: provide those veggies, encourage exercise, and limit sugary drinks and screen time. My class is doing very well and I'm enjoying trying to keep up. I told them from the beginning that the hour a day exercise would be my weakest point. Sure enough...it's hard to teach all day and then come home and fix dinner and exercise to boot! I'm pretty good at the rest of it, although have you noticed that it's hard to get those veggies in if all you do is eat Mexican food? haha

Okay, let's see what we're doing this week.

Language Arts:
Grammar - We're working on lots of diagramming practice and classifying sentences as well as learning the rules for commas.

Literature - Everyone is enjoying our selection this quarter, Prince Caspian, and this week we'll be having an interesting discussion about belief. Is it okay to believe in anything or anyone if they get results at any cost?

Poetry - We're moving right along with "Paul Revere's Ride", working on stanza 6 this week.

Math - The students are doing a great job with decimals. Unit 7 begins this week: the four operations with decimals. So, we'll be adding and subtracting, then move on to multiplication and division.

Science - We have finished with earthquakes and are learning about volcanoes next. This is such an exciting unit and we're guaranteed to have lots of questions!

History - We are going to have our comprehension check about the Age of Exploration on Tuesday, then we'll begin learning about how the native peoples wanted to break away from Spain.

That's it in a nutshell. Have a super week!
