Hello Fourth Grade Families,
We made it through week 1 (technically) of quarter 3! It was whirlwind of a week! I'm excited for the weekend with family. The weather has been perfect for "runs" and hikes. It used to be that if I was running, something was chasing me. I've finally changed that habit and now "run" (I use that term loosely) regularly. I've been averaging 2 miles a day. I'm enjoying every minute of this afternoon weather. Plus, we plan to hike on Saturday and Sunday in the Superstitions.
Let's take a look at what we're doing this first FULL week back.
Language Arts -
Poetry - We're learning "Paul Revere's Ride" with stanzas 1 and 2 due January 15th.
Grammar - This week we'll be reviewing prepositions and more diagramming.
Literature - We've covered the foundation to poems and are ready to start writing some. This week we'll be writing color poems, couplets, triplets, quatrains, haikus, a parts of speech poem and diamantes.
Roots - We'll have 15 roots this week with a spelling test on Friday.
Math - We're finishing up our unit on measurements this week in the 4A book, with a test in Wednesday, January 13th, then we'll start on their 4B book on Thursday. Please be sure your student has their books. After the test we'll start working with decimals.
Science - As we "dig" into our Geology unit, we're learning about the Earth and plate tectonics. We'll be making all sorts of fun connections. Be sure to ask your child what they learned in Science this week.
History - Our "Arizona Story" takes us back this week to Paleo-Indians, Archaic People, and Ancient Arizonans.
That's about it. Enjoy a few more days off with your amazing fourth grader! We'll see them Monday!
Warmly,
Mrs. Scott
