Well families, we've got two weeks left! That's only 6 full days and 4 half days, if anyone is really counting...
This week was another crazy one at my house. I'm still hosting my in-laws, who are here to work on the house. I had wanted to try to lose a few pounds before my June Mexico trip, but it's hard to do that when you're entertaining every night. Last night we had nine people over here and made homemade pizzas. The weather has warmed up so much we had to start using our misting system in order to sit outside. Right now I'm smoking a brisket and pork shoulder for our dinner tonight for more company. Our guests leave tomorrow, so I guess that's when I'll work on the diet. Haha.
Let's take a look at what's in store for this second-to-last week.
Language Arts
Grammar - We are done with grammar! We took our final test on Friday and will use the remaining grammar time for essay writing.
Literature - We're still reading COMB, so our final reading groups will be this Wednesday.
Poetry - The kids are working diligently to get the last couple stanzas memorized for Friday's recitation. They should be spending about 10 minutes each day on this, or longer if they are just getting started. It's challenging, so I hope you are encouraging them to stick with it.
Composition - We are well underway with our final essays. Students are working on their outline packets in class before beginning their rough draft. The final drafts are due on Friday.
Latin and Greek Roots - So, we've finished with all the roots for the year; the kids have learned 74 different roots! This week we will be doing various activities to review those roots and then next Monday or Tuesday there will be a final comprehensive test.
Math - We are also finished with our Singapore Math books! We decided to do a little check up on a unit that these kiddos had their last quarter of third grade when everyone had to go to distance learning. We'll evaluate and see if there are any gaps that we might fill this final week. We will also be doing our end-of- the-year Singapore Math Cumulative Assessment on Thursday and Friday this week. This test also has four 2-minute sprints (one for each operation) that we will take Tuesday-Friday. Most of our math work will be geared toward reviewing for that test.
History - In our story of the American Revolution, our Founding Fathers have successfully won their independence from Great Britain. This week, we'll learn a little about the significance of our nation's Constitution and the challenges that these men faced when writing it.
Science - We had such a great presentation from Dr. Cheroske this week! To finish the unit we will learn about maintaining good respiratory health, but we will also look at some common ailments.
That will finish our ninth week. Have a lovely weekend!
