Dear Fourth Grade Families,

We have a short week coming up. Each classroom will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday on Tuesday with fun crafts, a special thankful activity, and a feast. Please refer to the email from your class liaison on how to contribute. We wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and may you have plenty of time to reflect on the abundant blessings we enjoy in America!

Heads up that we have Saturday, February 12th reserved for an optional field trip to Feed My Starving Children. We will pack food boxes as a community from 9-10:45AM. Parents must attend with their children if you choose to join us on this meaningful and fun service project.

Please look to the side of our blog for the list of upcoming events during the busy holiday season. There will be plenty of volunteer opportunities for our Robin Hood party on Thursday, Dec 16th. Thank you, class liaisons for organizing sign ups and sending out communication to families through email.

Week 6 (Mon, Nov 22nd and Tues, Nov 23rd)

Language Arts

Grammar – We will classify and diagram interrogative sentences this week and work with subjects and predicates.

Poetry – "Norman and Saxon" is due Dec 10th. A good goal is to have the first four stanzas memorized by end of Week 6.  There are six stanzas total. Please listen to your scholar recite this daily.

Literature Students will reference evidence from Robin Hood to aide with our essays. There are no reading groups the rest of the quarter.

Composition – Students will complete their Robin Hood organizer packet and write a rough draft of their 5-paragraph essay. Students will prove that Robin Hood is a hero or Robin Hood is not a hero.

Latin & Greek Roots – No new roots this week. Instead, prior roots are reviewed.

Math – Students will review their graded and returned unit 3 test. We begin Unit 4 – Operations on Fractions. Students will add and subtract related fractions. They also solve word problems related to addition and subtraction of related fractions.

Science – No science this week due to our Thanksgiving fun.

History – We learn about Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine who married Henry II. She was an important ruler of France and England, and she was one of the most influential women in the Middle Ages. We continue take notes in folds and students will be assembling a lap book at the end of our unit.

Always have an attitude of gratitude.
