Thank YOU to our wonderful parents who sent in treats to make the class Thanksgiving celebrations possible - we appreciate your support so much.
I hope you had a restful break. The best part about Thanksgiving is spending time with family and friends. Of course, the other part is all the delicious food and leftovers! I set up my tree and décor to really feel the holiday season, as well as streaming Christmas music.
There are many important dates coming up these next three weeks. This Tuesday morning is Galileo testing, so please ensure your student gets a good night’s rest. This is their second test to measure growth and achievement in ELA and Math. Our winter Music Concert is Dec 8, and the Musial Instrument Museum field trip is Thursday, December 9. Please watch for an email this week on how to complete the field trip consent form. Thursday, Dec 16 is the Robin Hood party! This is a half day of fun Robin Hood activities, food, and meaningful crafts to culminate our Middle Ages unit.
See below for a brief overview of the wonderful learning awaiting your child in Week 7:
Language Arts
Grammar – We classify and diagram interrogative different sentences and introduce complete subjects and complete predicates.
Poetry – "Norman and Saxon" is due Dec 10.
Literature & Composition – Students will peer edit one another's rough drafts and then write their final Robin Hood essay in class.
Latin & Greek Roots – Week 7 roots are aqua and hydros. Spelling words are located on the right side this blog – click “Latin & Greek Roots” under “Materials”.
Philosophy – Can you teach yourself to be a grateful person?
Math – Students continue doing operations on fractions. We will add and subtract mixed numbers and complete word problems. Students will do activities to help them visualize the whole number and the fractional parts, then how to add or subtract the parts. There will be a quiz on Friday covering 4.1 to 4.2.
Science – Students will be able to understand the difference between weather and climate. At the end of the week, they will demonstrate their comprehension by writing about weather and why it is always changing. Climate is the average, year to year conditions of temperature, precipitation, winds, and clouds in an area. While weather changes day to day, climate is consistent and is predominately influenced by the latitude of a particular location or area.
History – Students will learn about the Magna Carta and identify elements that are similar to the U.S. Constitution and most clearly in the Bill of Rights. We explore the origins of the English Parliament by Edward I’s Model Parliament of 1295. We cover the Hundred Years’ War and major outcomes. One of those outcomes is that it helped bring about the end of the Middle Ages.
