Good afternoon from Nashville, Tennessee! You know you're in Nashville when you get off your plane and there's live music playing at the first restaurant inside the airport. I flew out here on Wednesday to visit family for the most part, but we also went to a wedding yesterday. The oldest son of some friends of ours from Tempe Prep got married at the bride's beautiful family home. The reception was in their hangar! It was quite an event - filled with food, fun, and dancing. Our middle son was one of the groomsmen. Oh! I almost forgot...that same son got engaged last Sunday! We anticipate the wedding will be next fall, and I'm so happy for him. That's three out of five...well, almost. So far so good!
We fly back home tonight, and I am happy to be starting our final week of quarter one. We welcome all the students who have decided to join us next quarter; each section has anywhere from 4-8 more coming into the classroom.
Let's take a look at what we have in store for our last week. Please remember that Friday is a half day.
Language Arts
Grammar - We're going to learn how to write both compound and complex sentences this week. We'll also be practicing with learning how to recognize when a sentence is a fragment or a run-on.
Composition - We'll put our skills with varying sentences to practice as we write our first 3-point paragraph about St. Benedict.
Literature - We'll be finishing up our literature story this week. I apologize for the DL, it was brought to my attention that the audio books are not aligning with the chapters we are reading in class. I'm not sure what went wrong, but it must be a different version, since there are more chapters in the audio files. In any case, we will finish all the chapters this week.
Poetry - Our recitations of "Ozymandius" are due on Wednesday.
Math - This week the students will practice single digit multiplication by 3 and 4 digit numbers.
History - We'll be learning about the contributions of the monks in the Middle Ages and about Saint Benedict of Nursia in particular.
Science - Our discovery with magnets continues as we explore the relationship between magnetism and electricity.
That's it for now. Please be sure to sign up for a conference with your child's teacher; sign ups will be available early in the week. Conferences will be held virtually this year, regardless of whether your child is in brick and mortar or DL. I'll post the links on the blog, if I can get some help from the Webmaster, or else you will get an email from your teachers directly.
Have a fabulous week!
