Good afternoon, it's Mrs. Maza again. This week was just too short and crazy for the assistant teachers to have a chance to write the blog, so I figured I'd get it done before the long weekend. I know we just had spring break, but I'm already so excited about this 4-day weekend! I plan to spend a lot of time with my family. We have several church obligations and now that some of my kids are grown, we've decided to go to some services at their churches. Saturday, I'm going to visit my father, who is expecting to come home from the hospital today. Sunday we will all gather once again at my mom's for a big family Easter celebration. Then, after all the craziness of the weekend, we get ONE more day! Hooray! I plan to spend the day with some of my kids and my grandson, too! I hope you have a joy-filled break with your loved ones, too.
Let's take a look at what we'll be doing when we return.
Language Arts:
Grammar - We will review the new linking verbs that they learned about today. Plus we'll revisit quotation marks and types of verbs. There will be a grammar quiz on April 15th.
Literature - We began reading Carry On, Mr. Bowditch and the kids are just starting to see how difficult life was back in the late 1700's. We will have reading groups one more time (this coming Wednesday) and then we'll need to stop while the state testing is going on. I'll notify you again when they start up, or you can just check the link for you child's classroom.
Composition - We will do one more practice writing assignment in preparation for the AZM2 test April 13th.
Poetry - Stanza 13!!!!! Can you believe it? The kids have done an incredible job memorizing the poem. I am hoping to have a plan approved that would allow the parents to come in to their child's class to hear their children reciting the entire poem from start to finish. I will let you know as soon I know more.
Math - We will wrap up the geometry unit next week, finishing with a test on Friday.
History - We are beginning to see just what made the colonists so upset with the British. They aren't quite ready to break away, but those British keep making decisions that are angering the colonists. Next week they will learn about the Boston Massacre and the Committees of Correspondence.
Science - Today the kids got to look at and touch the sheep hearts! I hope they tell you all about it. We'll delve into the function and components of the cardiovascular system when we return.
I think that's it. Oh, one more note...We had our training for the AZM2 test yesterday, and we were instructed to ask that each child come to school with some headphones on testing days. You may send them in anytime next week and we will give them a labeled bag to put them in. These can be any kind of headphones/earbuds that plug into a device. We will not be setting up bluetooth devices.
