Hello!
I hope everyone has a mighty fine weekend! We TAs are back again for the blog, and boy is this week a doozy! However, I am more than confident in our amazing students’ ability to not only overcome, but to thrive.
Look for an upcoming email with details about the Paul Revere recitation. Students will be reciting the entire poem together during their music class and parents are invited.
For starters, AZMerit (AzM2) begins for fourth grade with their writing test on Tuesday, April 13th. This means that it is vitally important that students are not only present in body, but with mind and spirit as well. Please be sure they have a good night's rest, a healthy breakfast, and bring in a healthy snack to be certain that they do their absolute best.
A quick reminder of AzM2 dates:
Tuesday, April 13th - Writing
Wednesday, April 21st - Reading and Math #1
Monday April 26th - Reading and Math #2
Knowing that, let's take a peek at the week ahead:
Language Arts:
Poetry - Paul Revere is Finished! An awesome milestone, but not something to dwell too long on. This week we explore the fabulous poem titled “George Washington” by Stephen Vincent Benet. It is another classic that I’m sure will be loved.
Grammar - Since AzM2 is in full swing, we are continuing our rigorous daily practice. Furthermore we will learn about Comparative and Superlative adjectives, irregulars and all!
Composition - We will do final practice for the AzM2 Writing test, which once again takes place on Tuesday April 13th, before transitioning into thorough literary comprehension training that should prepare students for the rest of their testing.
Literature - We continue to dive deep into Carry on Mr. Bowditch, analyzing the virtue, charm, and grit expressed in this exhilarating tale. We will cover chapters 7 through 9. Remember there are NO reading groups until after the AzM2 is finished for the entire school.
Math - This week we begin Unit 9, which takes a look at more properties of geometry, such as area and perimeter. Plus, we’ll jump ahead into Unit 10 to learn about basic data composition, using graphs and tables to visualize information. We want to make sure the students get a look at this before their state tests.
History - This week we will be investigating the tipping point in American history that shifts the colonies from an irritated child colony to one looking to revolt. Crucial moments include the Boston Tea Party and the First Continental Congress.
Science - Blood will be the centerpiece of our study for the week, discussing a variety of related qualities including blood pressure, the components of blood, and blood type. How thrilling!
That about sums up the week. I still can’t believe we are almost a month into the 4th quarter! Let’s keep up the good work and continue to strive for our best!
